Wood Marquetry
Marquetry Inlay consists of cutting out small pieces of thin, exotic wood veneer, usually 1/28” thick, gluing it down to a panel, and finishing it. This form of art goes back to the pharaohs of Egypt that used marquetry to decorate furniture and funeral sarcophagus, up to the times of Marie Antoinette, all the way to the present. Now it is performed to create pieces of art to adorn our homes, musical instruments but not coffins as much!

We start with a photo, make a line drawing from it, cut out each piece of veneer and then create the colorful jigsaw puzzle of veneers. After many hours, the marquetry picture is finished and ready to go to it’s new home. Our studio prides itself in using natural colored woods with variances in the pattern to create illusions of fur, shadows, clouds and vegetation.
You can own a piece of art too! Whether it is created by Robert, or from our kit or by taking one of our classes, you can own a piece of handmade beauty to pass down for generations to come.
